AFCEA Central Maryland Chapter Establishes Scholarship Endowment with Anne Arundel Community College

The Armed Forces Communications & Electronics Association (AFCEA) Central Maryland Chapter is pleased to announce that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Anne Arundel Community College (AACC) establishing a $25,000 scholarship endowment.

This endowment will provide an annual award to a student majoring in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) who demonstrates financial need as defined by the AACC Financial Aid office.  The Central Maryland Chapter selected the endowment approach to allow the annual scholarship to be awarded in perpetuity.

AFCEA Central Maryland Chapter leadership will present the $25,000 check to the AACC Foundation Inc. Board of Directors at a special ceremony at 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2011, in the atrium of the Center for Applied Learning and Technology on the AACC Arnold campus, 101 College Parkway.

Jerry Schepers, President of the Central Maryland Chapter, said “Encouraging the STEM career path of our brightest local students is an important part of the Chapter’s charter.  We’re fortunate to have such a vibrant partner as Anne Arundel Community College right in our backyard.”

Chuck Taylor, Executive Vice President of the Central Maryland Chapter, said “It’s our objective that this be just the start of our partnering with the Anne Arundel Community College Foundation.  We hope to add to the endowment’s principal in the future, and we hope to expand this model to other local colleges and universities.”
